MXF Import QT is an interpreter for QuickTime on Mac OS X to natively open and access a broad range of MXF variations without converting or referencing to the QuickTime movie format. This enables Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server and other solutions to directly work with native MXF media.

mxf-fileThe solution is compatible with many different MXF variations coming from broadcast media, ingest, transcoding and playout devices, hard disk recorders, or software that creates MXF files. Directly access various flavors of MXF such as Sony XDCAM (OP1a), Panasonic P2 (OP-Atom) and Avid (OP-Atom) without re-wrapping or transcoding. Please check the compatibility list for supported devices. We continuously work on further format support. Thanks to our independent MXF core libraries and analyzer application we can continuously add more MXF variations from even more sources. Please check our website frequently for the latest state of development or leave us a message.

Atomic-FusionAtomic Fusion is a free workflow application for customers of MXF Import QT. The helper tool automates video and audio merging when importing separate video and audio OP-Atom files from Avid into Final Cut Pro.
MXF Import QT provides access to most Avid MXF files. Standard compression types such as IMX30/40/50, DV, DVCPRO25/50, DVCPRO HD, AVC-Intra, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX and Uncompressed 1:1 8-bit are being interpreted with Final Cut Pro's QuickTime codecs to provide full compatibility, realtime effects and video playout. DNxHD and Avid Meridien (1:1, 2:1, 2:1s, 3:1, 4:1m, 4:1s, 10:1, 10:1m, 14:1, 15:1s, 20:1, 28:1, 35:1) are also supported.

Other applications such as Motion, LiveType, Shake, Premiere Pro or After Effects can import and edit the native Avid MXF files.

MXF Import QT allows access to streaming enabled MXF files (indexed OP1a). This is a very important feature to access MXF live recording feeds or file transfers. The most common requirement is edit-while-ingest which basically means access to video live recordings or file ingests. In addition this could also include various kind of file transfers such as downloads via FTP or standard web browsers, file copies between network attached workstations or even when copying a file from one local hard disk to another one. Direct access during partial restores or exports complements these requirements. MXF Import QT provides workflows for Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Studio to directly access growing MXF files without using reference movies or other tricks. With MXF4mac Final Cut Pro became the first NLE system that was able to directly edit growing OP1a files. No background application is running and no scanning or referencing process is required.

updatefcpmedia_v2Please check the additional Update FCP Media solution to improve streaming and file syncing workflows with Final Cut Pro 7. You can also request the free 1.1.1 version of Update FCP Media that does not include the sync feature (blue button) and also works with version 6 of Final Cut Pro on both Intel and PPC.

  • GXF Import QT uses similar techniques like our popular MXF Import QT solution to integrate the General eXchange Format into the QuickTime multimedia architecture. The QuickTime component enables direct access to GXF files in the entire operating system to provide a greater feature set for more flexible file worflows.

GXF Import QT supports SD and HD formats with AVC-Intra, MPEG-2 and DV compression types.

AVC-Intra QT is the first AVC-Intra codec for QuickTime and Mac OS X with export and encoding capabilities. The QuickTime export component makes AVC-Intra encoding available in Mac OS X's QuickTime architecture and accessible by every Mac OS X application. The exporter has been optimized to smoothly interface with the new Apple AVC-Intra decoder that is part of Final Cut Studio 3.

AVC-Intra encoding is available in every QuickTime application that provides standard QuickTime export operations. For example AVC-Intra rendering gets enabled in applications such as Adobe After Effects and AVC-Intra encoding is available in Apple Compressor. In addition AVC-Intra QT can be used with our MXF exporters to wrap AVC-Intra directly to standard MXF.

Every frame counts. Transform your high compressed Long-GOP sources such as HDV, AVCHD or H.264 to the best I-Frame Only full constant bit rate compression available. AVC-Intra is suitable for pristine editing and archiving at up to 100 Mbps.

AVC-Intra QT enables Final Cut Pro to set up native AVC-Intra timelines. Intermediate transcoding to Apple's ProRes codec will be avoided and true 10-bit video playout with realtime effects as well as video file export is available. Source media can be both native MXF through our MXF Import QT solution and QuickTime MOV based files from Final Cut Pro's Log and Transfer. Full MXF to MXF round tripping is enabled in combination with MXF Import QT and our export solutions. Also Color 1.5 or later will get enabled to import native AVC-Intra based MXF media files.

    AVC-Intra-FCP

AVC-Intra is a high efficient compression technology that is fully optimized for professional post production workflows and it also works brilliant for MXF streaming operations. The I-Frame only compression uses true constant bit rates resulting in a byte accurate data size for each frame. This enables smart indexing for fast streaming operations with growing files. GC Export FCP creates such fast streaming enabled MXF OP1a files which can be accessed directly while the export process is still ongoing. Like this AVC-Intra covers a broad range of workflows from high quality post production to high efficient broadcast.

DNG and CinemaDNG are standarized and open RAW formats for digital photo and film cameras. DNG QT is a decoder component for QuickTime to read and access the Adobe DNG and CinemaDNG formats in Mac OS X.

    Adobe DNG

The DNG QT component supports DNG still images from digital photo cameras and provides file previews in the Mac OS X Finder via QuickLook. Many QuickTime based applications can open DNG files for further processing.

The QuickLook component is available for free while the QuickTime component is bundled with MXF Import QT.

In digital film the extended CinemaDNG specification allows the creation of DNG based image sequences or MXF wrapped DNG data. MXF4mac is an active member of the CinemaDNG developer group. Experts from MXF4mac helped to define the MXF specifications for SMPTE. CinemaDNG image sequences can be read by the pure DNG QT component while MXF wrapped CinemaDNG files can be accessed in combination with MXF Import QT.
